Vignettes in the Czech Republic

Vignettes are a smart way for drivers to pay for their tolls without stopping and giving money at each passing when they use motorways or expressways. Usually, vignettes are placed on the car’s windshield, allowing for convenience and a hassle-free driving experience. They work by charging drivers’ accounts according to the distance traveled, time period, and type of vehicle.

The vignettes in the toll sticker form were removed in the Czech Republic in January 2021 and replaced by digital ones. It is not possible to buy a physical sticker and glue it on the vehicle’s windscreen anymore. Digital vignette is a very convenient method as you can do everything online.

The driver’s license plate and the date of entry into Czech Republic roads are used to generate digital vignettes. You can buy it electronically all year. Just choose the proper type, pay the fee, and receive it very fast.

Who must purchase a vignette to drive the Czech roads?

All the drivers who have at least four wheels vehicles not exceeding 3.5 tonnes and travel by Czech need to buy a vignette. It is not necessary to buy it for motorbikes, trailers, or caravans.

When it comes to vehicles heavier than 3.5 t (such as company/camper vans), the road toll in this situation is automatically calculated via an electronic system and device (OBU). You need to buy it at certain points. The price depends on the vehicle category and distance driven.

Important: In case you drive an electric, hydrogen, or hybrid vehicle (CO2 emissions up to 50 g/km), you don’t need to buy the e-Vignette. However, you must declare the number of the car license plate earlier, so the fine won’t be imposed.
